Warning: Okura Cookware
I purchased an Okura pot and pan on the basis they were made of titanium. When the pot arrived, the box said: "Titanium hammer pattern big belly pot. High quality stainless steel…"
I queried with Okura if the product was titanium, and they said:
"We'd like to clarify that our pots are not made entirely of 100% titanium. The cooking surface — the part that comes into direct contact with food — is 100% titanium for safety and durability. Beneath this layer is an aluminum core to ensure fast and even heat distribution, and the exterior is stainless steel to provide strength and long-lasting performance…"
I asked Okura for a Material Composition Declaration or Material Disclosure Statement, so I could see how much or how little of the product was actually titanium. Okura replied that they didn't have such a document available at the moment.
I then asked for an SDS/MSDS (Safety Data Sheet) and a Food Contact / LFGB / FDA / EU Declaration of Compliance for the pot and pan. Okura replied that these compliance documents were not available at the moment.
I then asked Okura to simply provide information about the composition of the pot and pan, including what percentage was titanium. Okura declined to provide that information.
At that point, I asked for a full refund.
They agreed but asked me to first return the products to China (to Hangzhou). I did, and according to Australia Post, the products have been sitting in Customs in Huangzhou for almost 2 months. I suspect this is because Okura needs to take a step or pay a fee in order for the goods to be released from Customs.
Needless to say, I have received no refund.
